Do you use EVC? If so you can create a new cluster at the same EVC level then migrate the vms over. Once all vms are migrated upgrade EVC to the new level. Once each vm is powered off then powered on...

Can you provide more information about ovf for which you are getting error?Can you export any VM from esxi as ovf and try to import again? To see if there is issue with ovf or any other issue is there.

If you don't mind re-register ingredients the vms then you can power down, remove from inventory (do NOT delete), browse the datastore from the new host, and register the vm. This process is not bad...
