The vSphere client connects to the ESXi where the guest VM's are present. It will not allow access to console.

Sorry we usually refer to the dcui when we say console. Yes you can do all vm management related tasks through vsphere client.

No. Why don't you go to Host--->Configuration--->Security profile---->Services and turn on SSh and connect to ESWXi using putty session and do it?Don't you have the access to the host?
