I'm trying to re-purpose my old ESX host to use in a non-production lab environment. And i'm running in to a problem. Starters i'm trying to use ESXi 5.5 (latest and greatest to see what's new, this is probably most of the issue) with this new version management is in the Web Client ONLY for many thing. including if i upgrade a VM to version 10. Well that's fine and all we own a vCenter server license so i downloaded it and was going to use the trial version to play around in the lab. (per EULA you can use it for non-production environments for 60 days) No luck there ESXi vShpere 5.5 (free license) isn't supported by vCenter Server licenses.
What i want to know is VMWare just going to do away with free version for lab use?
Is there a fix in the works to allow Free ESXi to still use the vCenter Client to make modifications?
From what i've read Web Only is the future so is this the end of keep current?
Let me know if the only current solution is to setup VM's in a lower version like 5.0 or something.
Thanks
P.S. sorry if this was asked and discussed already
